Main themes
The research thesis provides students with an opportunity to conduct personal but systematic research on an issue related to teaching and learning French as a foreign language. Regardless of the topic chosen, the thesis involves:
- formulating a relevant and feasible research question in the field of French language teaching, applied linguistics, or foreign language acquisition;
- producing a critical review of the scientific literature on this question;
- implementing an appropriate research methodology (qualitative, quantitative or mixed, action research, collaborative research, etc.);
- analyzing and interpreting empirical data related to the teaching and learning of French;
- formulating conclusions and implications for teaching practice or future research.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |
| 1 | correctly identify the subject of the research, pose a problem, and formulate research questions or hypotheses; |
| 2 | draw on relevant scientific literature in language teaching, applied linguistics, or foreign language acquisition; |
| 3 | design and implement a methodological approach appropriate to the research question; |
| 4 | collect, process, and interpret data in a rigorous and nuanced manner; |
| 5 | present research results clearly, both in writing and orally; |
| 6 | propose avenues for analysis and action for issues in teaching and learning French as a foreign language based on the results obtained and the scientific literature. |
