Main themes
The course examines specific issues related to the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of educational services and mediation in art museums and heritage sites. It familiarizes students with the main challenges of the role and practice of cultural mediators by analyzing and discussing learning activities observed in the field.
Particular attention is paid to the impact of advances in digital technology on mediation methods.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Decode the issues of Museum and Heritage Education,
 
2 Observe and comment different practices in cultural Education,
 
3 Decode various Museum Education practices,
 
4 Identify the main leading characteristics (draughts) of the learning strategies developed by learners in Art Museums,
 
5 Discuss and valuate the program of active Cultural Education for a specific audience.
 
Content
  • Sociological, cultural and organisational approach to different methodologies of museum and heritage mediation: issues and perspectives.
  • Approach to the cognitive, communicational, relational and social modalities of learners.
  • Approach of original methods and methodological tools.
  • Approach of different audiences (children, adolescents, young adults, adults, families etc.) in learning.
Teaching methods
Lectures alternate with observation sessions and meetings with resource persons from the institutions. Students are invited to prepare certain sessions by reading articles from the reading portfolio. A privileged collaboration has been established with the educational department of the Louvain-la-Neuve Museum.
Evaluation methods
Active participation in the course and submission of written work.
Where appropriate, any appropriate assessment arrangements will be put in place.
