The aim of this course is to offer a professionalising approach of musicology. The students will be asked to prove their ability to write a short paper on a theme selected beforehand, using correct methodological and epistemological tools. They will present their research publicly, by means of technologies specifically adapted to musicological needs: music software, electronic instruments, computer and audio-visual aids' |
Content
This course will provide an overview of the topics, resources and research methodologies relating to the history of opera.
Teaching methods
Lecture course with PowerPoint presentation and exercises.
Evaluation methods
Two written assignments and an oral presentation:
1/ a report on one of the lectures organised to complement the course (10,000 characters), accounting for 1/4 of the final mark;
2/ a document analysis based on a source and a topic agreed with the lecturer (15,000 to 20,000 characters), accounting for 1/2 of the final mark;
3/ an oral presentation of the document analysis in front of the class (10 minutes), accounting for 1/4 of the final mark.

The course will take place on Tuesdays from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm.
Five sessions are scheduled, starting on Tuesday 29 September: 29 September, 6 October, 20 October, 24 November and 1 December.
In addition to the seminar, it is compulsory to attend a series of four lectures scheduled on the following dates from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm: Tuesday 29 September, Tuesday 20 October, Tuesday 24 November and Monday 30 November 2026.
Five sessions are scheduled, starting on Tuesday 29 September: 29 September, 6 October, 20 October, 24 November and 1 December.
