Main themes
This course explores linguistic variation and diversity in the Dutch-speaking world, analysing geographical, social and situational variations. It also addresses contemporary issues such as multilingualism and pluricentrism, language policies and the impact of technology on language. 
The theoretical and methodological framework is that of sociolinguistics and variationist linguistics.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 an in-depth understanding of sociolinguistic and variationist methods applied to linguistic variation in Dutch
 
2 a critical understanding of language policies and their role in society
