Evaluation methods
A. Continuous assessment (70%) : During the term, students will be required to complete a number of tasks.
- Presentation 'Reconstruction of a crime' - assignment per 2 students (5/20)
- Continuous Assessment Written Tests: 4 tests on vocabulary and grammar (4 tests of 1/20 each) and one test on written expression, reading comprehension and listening comprehension (1 test of 5/20 - at the end of Q1, not during the January exam session)
B. Oral exam (30%) : Exam per two students. Discussion about the themes seen during the semester and a telephone conversation.
Attendance at this language course is required. In accordance with article 72 of the General Regulations for Studies and Examinations, the teacher may propose to the jury that a student who has two unjustified absences for the course be refused registration for the January, June or September session.
Second session (August - September)
- Students who fail the individual oral examination during the first session will have to retake this component during the second session (August-September).

- Students who passed the ongoing assessment components during the first session will retain their grades for the second session.

- Students who receive a failing grade for their presentation and/or the part 'Continuous Assessment Written Tests” section must retake the parts for which they received a failing grade. The five continuous assessment written tests will not be rescheduled separately. If a student has not passed the “Written Tests for Continuous Assessment” section, he or she must take a written test covering all the vocabulary and grammar from this course unit during the second session. This written test will count for 9/20.

- Students who have not attended the course during the term will be required to retake all parts of the evaluation. He/she will also be required to watch 4 compulsory videos, summarize them and comment on them orally. In this case, the points are distributed as follows: Presentation 'Reconstruction of a crime' (3/20), oral examination (8/20) and written test (9/20).
In the event of force majeure, the evaluation arrangements may be adjusted. Students will be notified as soon as possible.
Absence during a Written Test During the Quarter
An unexcused absence from a written test will result in a score of 0. Students who miss a test with a medical certificate may take a make-up test at the end of Q1. If they also miss the make-up test with a medical certificate, the missed test will be excluded, and the final grade will be recalculated based on the completed tests.
All assessment components are compulsory. However, absence (without official justification) from a permanent evaluation test or presentation will result in a mark of “0” for that test or presentation; absence from the oral examination will result in a mark of absence for the entire assessment and the student will therefore be prohibited from registering for the other parts of the evaluation.
In the event of a justified absence on the day of the oral examination (e.g. due to illness), the certificate must be sent to the chair of the examination board, to the faculty secretariat, with a copy to the professor and course coordinator.
Article 103. – Any student registered for examinations who is unable to attend one or more of them must notify the chair of the examination board and the faculty administration of the reason for their absence without delay. No later than the day after the end of the impediment, they shall submit to the faculty administration the original supporting documents, i.e. a medical certificate or any other document whose probative value is left to the sole discretion of the chair of the examination board. However, if this day is a Saturday, Sunday, 27 September or a public holiday, the day on which the documents are submitted is postponed to the next day that is not one of these.
We remind you that in the event of absence, even if justified, from an examination, you will not be able to take this examination on another date during the session.
The possibility of retaking an exam at a later date during the session in the event of a justified absence is not possible, in accordance with the General Regulations for Studies and Exams at UCLouvain (https://cdn.uclouvain.be/ groups/cms-editors-cvrc/reglements/RGEE_2024-2025_VF.pdf), unless it is not possible to take the exam on another date during the academic year for justified reasons.
If you wish to obtain an attendance record for an examination, you must request it via your virtual office.
