Main themes
To achieve its objectives, the course will address the following themes:
- description of the specific situation of young people (childhood and adolescence) with regard to spiritual and religious issues;
- study of the various places where the awakening and the development of the faith are realized within the framework of their human development: catechesis and pastoral;
- reflection on an integrated training taking into account the diversity of situations and the requirements of an adapted religious pedagogy.

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |
| 1. | At the end of this course, the student will be able to develop a critical reflection on the foundations, the conditions of possibility, the difficulties and the chances of accompanying the young people in the discovery of the Christian faith and in the draft of a reflection on the experience of faith. |
Content
The aim of the course is to equip students to reflect on catechetical practices for children and young people. Drawing on a historical overview of catechetical thought, the course will trace the development of the three directives, focusing on the main themes of each as well as the changing role of families and the community dimension in the transmission of the faith. The course will then move on to age-appropriate teaching methods, with a session devoted to youth ministry. It will subsequently examine the role of the Bible in catechesis and, finally, address contemporary issues such as ecology and digital technology.

The course will include:
• lectures and whole-group discussions;
• analysis of catechetical or biblical texts;
• presentations by two speakers involved in supporting catechetical practice in French-speaking Belgium;
• two hours of the course will be devoted to supporting groups in preparing this work;
• four hours of the course will be devoted to the presentation of the work carried out in groups by the students.
The course will include:

Evaluation methods
Students will be assessed on the basis of the following three exercises:
• individual completion of 8 assessment quizzes at the end of each half-day of teaching (one mark per quiz, totalling 8 marks);
• an oral presentation with a slide show on a method of catechesis for children or young people, based on a framework developed collectively, carried out in small groups of 3 or 4 people (12 marks).
Any use of artificial intelligence must be acknowledged. Students must also be able to justify all the content presented, in accordance with the guidelines for students at UCLouvain.

The course is organised for students on the Bachelor’s degree in Theology and the Certificate in Pastoral Theology, and for students at the Lumen Vitae Institute. It takes place at two venues:
