Content
Academic English is a specific genre with its own methodological, stylistic and linguistic characteristics. In this course, you will learn to use the rhetorical functions typical of academic English. We will also look at the different stages in the scientific research process, from the analysis and selection of sources to the oral and written presentation of your work.
The aim is to help you understand and justify your research project.
Please note that this is not a general English language course.
Teaching methods
Volume 1 of the course (15 h) will cover the theoretical aspects inherent in the oral and written presentation of a scientific project.
Volume 2 of the course (22h30) will focus on exercises in preparation for the final exam.
Evaluation methods
During the semester, students will be required to complete a compulsory preparatory step-by-step assignment leading up to the writing of their final paper. This work counts for 30% of the final grade.
Final written assignment to be submitted on Moodle (EAP paper: 30% of the final exam mark).
Oral examination to defend the written work (40% of the final grade).
The final grade for the course is the weighted average of the 3 parts, regardless of the session. As our aim is to train specialists in academic language, we attach great importance to linguistic correctness/precision.
Online resources
Most documents, reference sources and exercise materials will be made freely available via the Moodle platform.
