Main themes
In-depth and interactive analysis of a selection of representative works of classical Greek, Hellenistic or Roman literature, according to a given theme.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |
1 | translate into literary French representative texts from classical Greek, Hellenistic or Roman literature; |
2 | produce an argumentative commentary on one or more works of Greek literature, including literary, historical, stylistic and cultural considerations; |
3 | conduct personal research as an extension of the course. |
Content
The authors chosen for the course are the poets Callimachus and Theocritus. After an introduction setting the author and his work in their context, the translation will be the subject of a methodical commentary.
Teaching methods
The translations prepared by the students will be corrected during the course, and will be the subject of the widest possible commentary.
Evaluation methods
The course will be assessed in two stages:
- Oral presentation during the term (20%)
- Oral examination in term time
- Translation (30%)
- Explanation of linguistic forms (20%)
- Commentary (30%)
Other information
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) must be used responsibly and in accordance with the practices of academic and scientific integrity. As scientific integrity requires that sources be cited, the use of AI must always be reported. The use of artificial intelligence for tasks where it is explicitly forbidden will be considered as cheating.
