Main themes

The course starts from the postulate that human development occurs in a given social environment. Through studies comparing different cultures or different environments with the same culture, it highlights the universal processes of development on the one hand and the impact of environment / culture on socio-emotional, cognitive or personal development of individuals. Parenthood is seen as an unavoidable vector of individual enculturation. Finally, the implications of these intercultural studies on the relationships that the psychologist establishes with his/ her clients / patients are considered initially theoretically and then in practice.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :
1	At the end of this course, the student must be able to Differentiate universal processes of development and culturally marked processes in various areas of development such as socio-emotional, cognitivr development or personality. Understand the implications of these processses in relationships. Articulate the important concepts of cultural and intercultural psychology and related theoretical models, with those of developmental psychology.

Content

The course is based on the premise that all human development takes place in a given social environment. Through studies comparing different cultures or different environments within the same culture, it underlines the universal processes of development on the one hand, and the impact of environment/culture on the development of individuals in areas such as motor, cognitive and socio-affective development on the other. Parenthood is seen as an essential vector of enculturation. Finally, the applied perspectives of these intercultural studies on the relationships that psychologists establish with their clients/patients are considered, first theoretically and then through ethnopsychiatric clinical practice.

Face-to-face ex catedra lectures; peer-review workshops (for formative purposes); videos shown during the course.

Evaluation methods

The assessment is carried out using Questions with Multiple Answers consisting of 10 questions with 4 answer options. 1 to 4 correct answers are expected for each question. Each question answered correctly is worth 1 point. No answer, partial or incorrect answers are worth 0 points. Exam questions may include parts in English (e.g. a scientific article to be analyzed). ex catedra face-to-face courses; peer-review workshops (formative); video aids shown during the course.
