Introduction

This programme offers the possibility of combining a Germanic language and a Romance language.

By the end of the first cycle, you will have developed, in both your chosen languages the following skills

• communicative: you will learn to understand, express yourself, read and write in these languages;
• linguistic: you will study grammar and related elements, as well as the necessary linguistic theories to understand how languages work;
• literary: you will review the history of the literature and learn how to analyse and interpret literary texts.

Your future job

Graduates in Modern Languages and Literatures work in business (management, administration, etc.); some become teachers, editors, translators or interpreters, others journalists or proof-readers; yet others become managers, company secretaries, booksellers, legal advisers, tourist guides or work as attachés in government departments or NGOs. Some seek a career in the performing arts such as the theatre.

This training also opens the door to a wide range of other types of employment which do not (yet) have an official title.

Your programme

The Bachelor’s degree offers you the opportunity to

• learn the many facets of two modern languages;
• make an in-depth study of the culture, linguistics and the literature of the two languages;
• get practically oriented training in your chosen languages : courses given in the languages, specific courses on communication skills, practical exercises, language labs, conversation courses, wide variety of multimedia tools, etc.;
• have close supervision in small-scale auditoria;
• make a study visit abroad as part of the Erasmus exchange programme.

Your parcours

Once you have your bachelors, you will follow the Masters course in Modern Languages and Literatures: General.
Your bachelor’s degree will also enable you to study other related fields (such as, for example, the Masters in multilingual communication, the Masters in linguistics, the Masters in translation or the Masters in European Studies).
