On 27 April 2023, the Brussels Labour Court delivered a legal judgement declaring Professor Caroline Nieberding's claims against the university unfounded and dismissing them. According to the judgement, “The analysis of the case does not allow the Labour Court to conclude or presume that Professor Nieberding is a victim of workplace harassment or violence by UCLouvain.”
The Labour Court decisions, which has the force of res judicata, is currently the subject of an appeal to the Court of Cassation. Therefore, the university shall refrain from commenting on the case, including any allegations being circulated in connection with it.
Whether regarding workplace well-being, personal integrity, or respect for legal decisions, the university remains deeply committed to all aspects of the rule of law.
This dispute deeply affects, directly or indirectly, several UCLouvain members, primarily within the Earth and Life Institute. While awaiting legal resolution, the university offers them its unwavering support.
