Jerry Jacques est professeur à l’UCLouvain en Belgique au sein du GReMS (groupe de recherche en médiation des savoirs) et de l’École de Communication. Sa thèse de doctorat défendue en 2016 propose une définition des compétences propres à l’organisation des collections d’informations personnelles numériques. Il mène aujourd'hui différents travaux sur les pratiques et les compétences des utilisateurs qui interagissent avec les informations et les médias numériques, avec un intérêt particulier pour les défis soulevés par certaines innovations techniques (algorithmes, data, robotique...) et l’automatisation du paysage médiatique. Il est l’un des initiateurs du projet du projet « Dans la peau d’un algorithme », réalisé en partenariat avec des chercheurs coréens, qui permet aux jeunes de mieux comprendre les enjeux liés aux algorithmes de recommandation des plateformes numériques contemporaines. Ses recherches et enseignements interrogent également les liens entre médias, informations et connaissances, avec comme angles spécifiques ceux de la vulgarisation scientifique et des effets éducatifs des médias.
Jerry Jacques is an assistant professor at UCLouvain in Belgium. He is currently leading several research projects on the practices and competencies of users engaging with digital and automated media, with a particular focus on the challenges posed by technological innovations (such as algorithms and AI). His research and teaching also explore the relationships between media, information, and knowledge, with a special emphasis on science communication and the educational effects of media.
