The ghost of the crystal cave

This image comes from SEM fractography of sintered iron oxides powders. The general context of the research was to study the use of iron as an efficient, CO2-free energy carrier, and in particular sintering of iron powders after combustion. Within the sample, this specific pillar structure was observed, with one of the pillars resembling a shy ghost hiding in its cave.
