Title of the talk:
Involvement of cystine/glutamate exchanger in the development and maintenance of chronic pain

Abstract: 
Chronic pain represents a major public health concern, as many conventional analgesic treatments show limited efficacy in managing this condition. It is therefore essential to investigate the underlying mechanisms involved in chronic pain development and maintenance.

One hypothesis frequently proposed to explain chronic pain mechanisms involves disrupted glutamatergic homeostasis, which contributes to central sensitization.

Several lines of evidence suggest that system xc−, a cystine/glutamate antiporter expressed in glial cells, may participate in the establishment and/or maintenance of this sensitization by modulating glutamatergic signaling.

This seminar will present our recent findings obtained in a neuropathic pain model using inducible conditional Cre-lox mice to genetically delete system xc−, and will discuss the contribution of this transporter to the mechanisms underlying pain sensitization.
