As part of a conference exceptionally co-organized by SIG PAIN and SIG ALZAD, we are pleased to invite you to the talk presented by Ségolène Lithfous of the University of Strasbourg (France) and entitled "Mechanisms involved in pain tolerance in aging."

This talk will take place on Thursday, April 10th at 5:00 PM in Room Harvey 1 (Harvey Tower, ground floor, Woluwé campus).

Abstract: Older adults tend to have a lower pain tolerance compared to younger individuals. This presentation will discuss two hypotheses to explain this phenomenon. On the one hand, a decline in endogenous pain inhibition mechanisms has been reported in aging. This decline may be linked to age-related brain changes, particularly in the prefrontal cortex, which plays a key role in both pain modulation and executive functions. Evidence supporting a link between the efficiency of executive functions and endogenous analgesia in older adults will be presented. The second hypothesis will explore peripheral mechanisms and the role of vascular functions in thermal pain tolerance among older adults.
