François Maniquet was officially received as a new member during the Academy’s academic rentrée ceremony, held on 3 October 2026 at the Palais des Académies in Brussels.

Recognition of his research in welfare economics

François Maniquet’s election recognises his significant contributions to research, particularly in the field of welfare economics, which is at the core of his research.

His work focuses on questions related to social choice, inequality and the evaluation of economic policies, contributing to a better understanding of how economic and social outcomes can be assessed.

Contributing to interdisciplinary research

As a member of the Royal Academy, François Maniquet will also contribute to the institution’s interdisciplinary activities. In the future, he may notably take part in organising colloquia bringing together researchers from different disciplines and fostering dialogue across academic fields.

This new role will provide further opportunities to contribute to the visibility and development of research in the humanities and social sciences in Belgium.

LIDAM warmly congratulates François Maniquet on this well-deserved recognition and on his election to the Royal Academy of Belgium.
