JOB - PhD candidate in O.R.
core |
The research group CORE (LIDAM, UCLouvain) is looking for a full-time PhD candidate to do research in the field of Operations Research under the supervision of prof. Stefan Creemers.
The proposed topic of the PhD considers the optimization of digital freight platforms. Digital freight platforms are online platforms that facilitate freight shipping. Among others, they offer spare capacity available on trucks to shippers (at a reduced cost) in order to increase efficiency and to decrease congestion and emissions. The goal of the research is to characterize optimal policies for both platforms and shippers. The candidate, however, is free to propose another topic that aligns with the research expertise of the supervisor.
The PhD candidate will find a dynamic and pleasant working environment, in a group that is actively involved in scientific research at the highest international level. Candidates are expected to participate in seminars and conferences, to be internationally mobile, and to enroll in our PhD program. Candidates should have a strong interest in Operations Research and preferably hold a master’s degree in business engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or equivalent. Students who are currently in the final year of their Masters are especially encouraged to apply. Strong analytical skills, a willingness to learn, and a healthy dose of curiosity are required.
We offer a full-time position for 2 years, renewable once after positive evaluation. The tentative starting date is September 2025, depending on the availability of the candidate. Additional information can be found here:
