Confirmation exam

sst |

The Supervisory Committee and the student meet at least once a year, at the initiative of either the student or the advisor. The student presents the progress of their experimental work to the committee and provides an update on the status of their article submissions. The committee evaluates the progress of the thesis and the PhD programme

It also participates in the confirmation exam.

=> What is the confirmation exam? (Article 2.3 of the PhD Regulations)
Based on the progress of the student’s research, the confirmation exam aims to determine whether the research is indeed likely to lead to the submission of a PhD thesis.

It must be organised within 24 months of the PhD student’s (final) admission by the CDD.

The specific provisions stipulate that, by the time of the confirmation exam, the student must have .accumulated at least 15 PhD credits, excluding the confirmation exam itself, which counts for five credits

--> Students submitting a request for confirmation via the OSIS application must have previously submitted, via this same application, or must submit in parallel, an application for the recognition of at least 15 PhD credits. Go to your virtual desktop, via the “My studies/My student file” widget, log in to OSIS, select: “My research project/Manage my PhD”.

The confirmation exam consists of:
•    the student’s submission to their Supervisory Committee of a written report, an article they have authored, or any other document demonstrating the progress of their research;
•    an oral presentation by the student, in the presence of their Supervisory Committee, of the work carried out and the plans envisaged for the remainder of their PhD.

At the end of the student’s oral presentation, the Supervisory Committee reports to the CDD whether the student passed or failed or whether confirmation should be deferred to a later date.

=> The request for confirmation is submitted via the OSIS application, accessible via your virtual desktop by choosing the “My studies/My student file” widget; you will then be directed to OSIS, where you select “My research project/Manage my PhD”.

=> The PhD confirmation is then ratified by the CDD.
=> The PhD administrator validates the decision directly within the application.
