Prof. Fabio A. Recchia directs a laboratory in Italy, where his group is testing new biological
therapies in pig models of myocardial infarction and hibernated myocardium, and a laboratory in
the USA focused on the pathogenic role of cardiac metabolic alterations in a canine model of
congestive heart failure. His main expertise is in integrative cardiovascular physiology and
pathophysiology.

L'évaluation des flux de sédiments en suspension dans les rivières reste une tâche difficile, en particulier pour la fraction la plus grossière, à savoir le sable. Pour les fractions d'argile et de limon, l'hypothèse d'une distribution homogène des concentrations dans toute la section de la rivière est généralement valable. There are many examples in fluid dynamics in which we wish to use a limited amount of information about a flow (e.g., from sensors) to infer its larger behavior. Rather than treat this inverse problem deterministically, it is valuable to embrace its uncertainty, e.g., due to noisy sensor measurements, and work in a probabilistic setting. Even if we think we have non-noisy measurements, we can still learn a lot about the estimated flow by treating it in this setting: Is the estimate unique? What information is available (and not available) in the sensors?

Spinal deformities are one of the most mechanically disabling pathology for the human body. Resolving spinal deformities using surgery is difficult, sensitive and frequently leads to the necessity to perform corrective surgeries. The modeling methodologies presented in this talk aim at filling a crucial void by empowering surgeons to optimize the efficacy of surgery planning while minimizing the likelihood of revision surgeries.
