Data-driven Wind Farm Control

March 17, 2023

14:15

Louvain-la-Neuve

Place du Levant 3, Shannon room

Wind Farm Control (WFC) is defined as the coordinated control of the turbines in a wind farm, influencing the flow between the turbines as well as the power supply to the electricity system. Its primary goal is to mitigate the wake effects that reduce velocity and increase turbulence behind the turbine(s), while maintaining the stability in the grid.

Louvain-la-Neuve

Stevin, place du Levant 2

In this talk, we will describe the system development approach followed by researchers and engineers of the team NAIST-RITS-Panasonic (Japan) for our participation in international robotics competitions such as the Future Convenience Store Challenge (2018 to 2022). In particular, this international competition is about the development of robotic capabilities to execute complex tasks for retail automation. The team built four different robots with multiple end effectors, as well as different technologies for mobile manipulation, vision, and HRI.

Gas-liquid membrane contactor (GLMC) uses hydrophobic porous membrane to separate gaseous feed and liquid absorbent is one of the cost-effective post-combustion carbon capture technologies due to its excellent selectivity and lower energy requirement. Unfortunately, GLMC suffers from membrane wetting, toxic amine usage and energy- intensive solvent regeneration process. Greener solvents, such as carbonate salts, have been used in place of amines to capture CO2 in GLMC.

Contact electrification (also called tribocharging) results from the exchange of electrostatic charge during frictional contacts between same-type or different materials. It can be observed in natural phenomena (dust and sand storms, volcanic eruptions) and it is also present in industrial processes dealing with granular material (silo flows, filtration, fluidization) in which it can cause mixing and transport inefficiencies.
