The Institute for European Studies (IEE) at UCLouvain Saint-Louis Bruxelles, through its EUMERGENCIES Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, is pleased to invite you to an insightful discussion on the intersection of EU defense policy and democratic oversight. As the EU pivots toward a more militarized posture, how do we ensure that crisis-driven policies don't bypass the rule of law?
In their latest research, our guest speakers take a critical look at the European Union’s approach to rearmament. They argue that while current policies aim for necessary short-term security goals, they often create significant accountability gaps within the European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP) and the European Defence Omnibus.
The seminar will explore how addressing these shortcomings is vital for protecting fundamental rights and ensuring democratic oversight in an increasingly militarized Union.
