Francesco Pisanu, potdoctoral fellow in Computer Science at CORE, has been awarded a prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship for his project OPTItree, focused on computational phylogenetics.

His goal is to develop models and algorithms capable of reliably reconstructing evolutionary relationships between organisms from genetic data, a key challenge for better understanding the evolution of viruses, bacteria, and tumor cells.

By combining mathematics, computer science, and biology, OPTItree aims to overcome the current limitations of existing methods, often constrained by high computational costs or a lack of guarantees on the results.

An important step forward for the analysis of complex data, and a well-deserved recognition for Francesco.
