In-work benefits and labour supply: Analysis of the introduction and expansion of the social work bonus for Belgium

Abstract: This paper investigates the impact of the introduction and subsequent expansion of the social work bonus, a payroll tax reduction with legal incidence on low-wage employees in Belgium. Using administrative individual panel data, we evaluate the effects of the policy on labour market outcomes, including participation in salaried employment, number of days worked, and wages.
