This master programme aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the current challenges that European democracies must face (such as climate change, economic inequalities or migration) as well as with insights from multiple disciplines addressing the formal and informal aspects of decision-making such as political science, law, history, and economics.
This master is a joint programme, organized within the European University Alliance Circle U.
For this programme, the students :
- Need to apply for admission to the joint programme;
- Are selected and admitted to the joint programme according to their academic results, and prerequisite requirements and motivations;
- Must hold an academic degree of bachelor in Political or Social Sciences;
- Must have a working knowledge of English (level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference);
- Must follow mobility rules as this Master in EU Studies is organised by Université catholique de Louvain (Bruxelles - Belgium), Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Germany) and Università di Pisa (Italy),
This programme consists of 120 credits. Its successful completion leads to issuing two or three diplomas : from each of the partner universities where they have studied.
The degrees awarded are entitled as following :
- UCLouvain: « Master en études européennes, à finalité spécialisée : EU Public Governance »
- HU Berlin: « Global and European Transformations (GET MA) »
- Unipi: « Laurea Magistrale in Unione Europea, processi globali e sostenibilità dello sviluppo »

Graduates from this Master will be ready to work in public or private organisations and bodies connected to European affairs. They will hold positions as advisers, representatives, or managers in:
- International, European, national, regional or local administration and institutions.
- NGOs and European associations, professional associations.
- Consultancy offices and lobbying firms.
Votre programme
All students spend the first semester of the first year of the master (Q1) in UCLouvain.
In their mobility schemes, students should spend a teaching semester in at least two different partners universities. It is also possible to spend a teaching semester in each of the three partners universities.
Students can also spend one semester abroad in one of the other Circle U Universities (non-partner universities), provided that specific agreements have been reached.
The last semester (Q4) is dedicated to writing the master thesis. To write their master thesis, students must choose one of the different partner universities where they have already spent at least one semester during the master program.
