Ethics & Compliance / Guest intervention with NewB and webinar with EBEN on AI

Louvain-La-Neuve, Mons

As part of the Business Ethics and Compliance Management course, more than 100 students from LSM participated on 24.11.20 to an interactive guest lecture with Charles van Doorslaer, Compliance Officer at NewB. With the aim to build a new ethical and sustainable bank, NewB is now in the launch phase, after successfully raising funds in 2019 from more than 100,000 enthusiastic individuals based on the co-operative model.
The singular characteristics of NewB makes their challenges and opportunities particularly interesting when it comes to ethics and compliance. For one hour, Charles van Doorslaer shared openly with the students his experience at NewB, his role as a compliance officer, the risks inherent to the industry and how they translated into the ethical positioning of the co-operative.

On the same day, students also followed the “Ethical Discussions in AI Applications” webinar organized by the European Business Ethics Network (EBEN). During this webinar, students learned from academics and practitioners on how to use Digital Ethics to address expectations of customers, key drivers and challenges for the use of AI in the insurance business but also key ethical aspects for auditing companies.
