Ana Beloqui wins 2nd ERC award

Bruxelles Woluwe

Ana Beloqui, professor at the faculty of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences and researcher at the LDRI, has just been awarded an ERC Proof of Concept grant from the European Research Council. Together with another colleague from UCLouvain, a professor of political science, they are the only two researchers from French-speaking Belgian universities to have been awarded this grant in this round. The work of Ana Beloqui is focused on nanomedicine and the development of innovative approaches for oral drug delivery. Passionate about research at the crossroads of medicine, chemistry, pharmacy and engineering, she is developing new drug delivery systems for unmet therapeutic needs in the treatment of chronic diseases such as diabetes.

Ana Beloqui holds a master's degree in pharmacology (2011) and a doctorate in pharmaceutical technology (2013) from the University of the Basque Country. She then did a post-doctorate in the ADDB laboratory at the LDRI. She was appointed research associate from the FRS-FRNS in 2018. Since then, she was awarded an ERC Starting Grant in 2019 and is a Welbio researcher since 2021. Her work has also been recognized with several prizes: Galien prize in pharmacology in 2021, the EDMA prize from the FRS-FNRS and the prize of the Fondation Simonart in 2023.
