Decentering History - A Consideration of Positionality and Methodology
In this conversation, Mita Choudhury will discuss the historian's position in the context of research, teaching, and professional service. The questions to be considered are what historical subjects are considered legitimate, the meaning of authoritative voices, and the role of the audience (public) in the production of history. These topics have gained urgency given social movements of the past few years as well as new fields of study, such as enslave women.
Mita Choudhury, invitée auprès de RSCS et du LaRHis, est professeure d’Histoire à Vassar College, USA. Spécialiste en histoire du genre et du religieux, elle interroge les relations de pouvoir dans les sociétés du passé (notamment 18e siècle) et du présent.
