Nele De Raedt
Professeure

Nele De Raedt is an engineer-architect, specialised in the field of the theory, history and criticism of architecture. She is mainly interested in late medieval and early modern architectural theory and its intersections with political theory, legal history, and the history of emotions. Although architectural treatises are part of the corpus of texts she studies, she mainly works with moral and political literature, as well as legal texts, as such texts create theoretical models on architectural design and patronage, and discuss architecture in relation to broader societal questions. Nele has received fellowships from the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence - Max-Planck-Institut, the Belgian Historical Institute in Rome and the Academia Belgicae to pursue her research abroad. She also is an active member of the European Architectural History Network (EAHN). Having received her PhD in Science of Engineering: Architecture in March 2019 at Ghent University, she works now as assistant professor in history, theory and criticism of architecture at the faculty of architecture, architectural engineering and urbanism (LOCI) at UCLouvain.
