Main themes
  1. The course introduces students to the major trends and tendencies in French literature of the modern period (16th, 17th and 18th centuries) through the reading and analysis of texts from the period. 
  2. The course is organised chronologically, providing historical reference points to understand continuities, filiations, mutations and ruptures.  It links literature to its artistic, cultural, political, social and economic contexts. 
  3. The course introduces students to a reflection on literary history and poetics specific to the period. 
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Situate the major works and trends of the period;
 
2 Give a structured, contextualised presentation of the literary history of the period;
 
3 Analyse literary texts, highlighting the processes involved in their production;
 
4 Identify the formal choices made by the authors.
 
This learning unit contributes to the development and command of the following skills and learning outcomes of the ELAL programmes: 1.5, 1.6., 2.6.
