Main themes
Historical, encyclopaedic and critical methodological introduction to Indo-European comparative studies, considered from a linguistic perspective (definition and overview of the major languages families; presentation of theories and basics of typology, dialectology, areal and genetic comparison, reconstruction and language evolution, phonetics / phonology, morphology, semantics and syntax, applied to Indo-European languages) as well as from a cultural perspective (basics of comparative mythology in particular).
Content
The class will be comprised of two parts:
- introduction to diachronic and comparative linguistics (history, methods, case studies, limits);
- presentation of the individual branches of the Indo-European language family.
