Teaching methods
BHDPO1290 – Q1 and Q2: one and a half hours of lessons per week.
Communicative, interactive and in-depth approach.
The lessons are mainly devoted to vocabulary, oral and written expression and listening exercises. The texts cover current political, economic and social affairs, as well as certain authors and topics covered in political science and international relations courses.
A grammar test is given in the first class to help students better understand their own level of English.
An optional exemption test is also organised at the beginning of Q1 for students who feel strong with their English. The written part of this test is organised online: students must obtain at least 16/20. In this case, students will be invited to an oral interview on specific topics that will have been communicated in advance and after passing the written part; for oral skills, the minimum mark to be obtained is also 16/20. Students who obtain at least 16/20 in both tests will retain this mark throughout the year (Q1 and Q2). The test is organised only once. The procedures for registering for the exemption test will be communicated by the Faculty Administration.

Other information
It is imperative that students check Moodle at least once a week and read ALL announcements, information and documents posted there.
Participation in interactive classes is strongly recommended.
Use of generative artificial intelligence (or any other online tool, such as translators, spell checkers, grammar checkers, etc.)
If the student chooses to use one or more AI tools (or any other online tool), they are required to systematically indicate all parts that have been subject to this use, e.g. in footnotes. The student must specify whether the AI was used to search for information, to write the text, or to improve or correct it. In addition, the student must mention which AI was used (ChatGPT, Bing, Bard, Chatsonic, etc.) and the date on which it was used. These sources of information must be systematically cited in accordance with the bibliographic referencing standards indicated by the course lecturer. Students remain responsible for the content of their work, regardless of the sources used.
In order to ensure that the student's written work is original, criteria such as originality, critical thinking, creativity and illustration with examples (e.g. from their own experience) will be taken into account.
Any behaviour on the part of the student that prevents or attempts to prevent, in whole or in part, a correct assessment of their knowledge, skills and/or competences will be considered an irregularity that could lead to sanctions.
See the charter: ‘Commitment to Integrity’ in the course syllabus.
Absences from one or more written and oral examinations
During each examination session, a mark will only be awarded for the EU if and only if all parts of the assessment have been completed (excluding continuous assessment).
Any attendance mark (0/20), unjustified absence (0A) or absence with a medical certificate (0M) for any part of the examination (written and/or oral) will be the overall mark for the session.
In this case, all parts of the examination for the term in question must be retaken during the following session. No resits are possible during the session, even with a medical certificate.
If a student is unable to sit one or more examinations, they must notify the faculty administration by email within 24 hours of becoming aware that they will be absent, copying in their lecturer. Proof of absence (medical certificate) must be sent by email only to the faculty administration no later than the first working day following the end of the absence.
For exams outside the exam period, a note of attendance must be requested no later than the day before the exam by sending an email to the faculty administration, copying in your teacher.
