Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  1. Identify and comment on the approaches and methodologies used in language classrooms.
  2. Describe the strategies implemented to foster interaction, communication, and the acquisition of language skills.
  3. Identify and understand the classroom management principles of the observed teachers.
  4. Identify and comment on classroom dynamics (teacher-student and student-student interactions).
  5. Analyze the use of pedagogical resources and learning materials.
  6. Identify and explain how the teacher adapts instruction to student diversity.
  7. Examine the tools and strategies used to assess language skills in the observed classrooms.
  8. Critically reflect on the observed teaching practices.
  9. Identify and understand lesson planning in relation to the applicable competency frameworks.
  10. Become aware of the teacher’s role in fostering students’ linguistic autonomy.
  11. Begin to reflect on one's future stance as a teacher.
 
Teaching methods
The course is taught in person and is designed around a co-development dynamic (collaborative learning).
Evaluation methods
Continuous assessment: 20%
Attendance at seminars and active, collaborative participation.
January assessment: 80%
Students must submit an observation report detailing the diversity of teaching practices and the continuities and discontinuities in learning observed at primary and lower secondary level. The observations made will also enable students to question their identity and professional development as future upper secondary school teachers.
The report must also contain a record of the observations and the completed co-constructed grids.
August assessment: 100% 
Continuous assessment is not taken into account.

In formal education, the ban on wearing religious symbols, when stipulated in the school's internal regulations, also applies to student teachers.
