Prerequisites
Good command of the Dutch language and introduction to Dutch linguistics. 
Main themes
This course will deal with the interlanguage of learners of Dutch as a foreign language, in particular French-speaking learners of Dutch, in all its components (morphosyntax, phonetics and lexicon). Part of the course will also be devoted to (the importance of) classroom language.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Demonstrate theoretical and applied knowledge of the acquisition vs. learning of Dutch.
 
2 Recognize the characteristics of the interlanguage of learners of Dutch as a foreign language, in particular French-speaking learners of Dutch.
 
3 Develop an appropriate methodology for studying an aspect of interlanguage.
 
4  Master the usual Dutch classroom language.
 
This teaching unit contributes to the development and mastery of the following skills and knowledge from the School of Languages and Arts syllabus (see ELAL AA table): 2.6 ; 3.1 ; 3.2 ; 3.5 ; 3.6 ; 5.3 ; 5.6. 
 
Content
The course will address various issues related to learning Dutch as a foreign language, with particular attention to the learning of Dutch by French-speaking learners in French-speaking Belgium.
Teaching methods
The course will combine lectures, readings of scientific articles, research and analysis work, oral presentations, written assignments, and more.
Evaluation methods
Formative evaluation: participation in activities, research and analysis work, oral presentations, written assignments, etc.: 30%
Summative evaluation: oral exam in January covering the course content and assignments: 70%
Students who fail will have to retake an oral exam in August/September, which will then count for the entire grade. A written assignment may be required in preparation for the oral exam.
Generative Artificial Intelligences (AI) must be used responsibly and in accordance with the principles of academic and scientific integrity. Since scientific integrity requires sources to be cited, any use of AI must always be acknowledged. The use of artificial intelligence for tests and examinations is strictly prohibited and will be considered an act of cheating.

Active participation in all training activities is mandatory.
Students must register for the various tasks within the given deadlines.
Failure to comply with these requirements will result in a failing grade for a part or for the entire course.
