Programme structure

The student constructs his programme to include four main coherent sections: core courses, a dissertation (and supporting seminars), a focus (30 credits) and 25 ects of optional courses.

The programme of the first year of the Master is made up of:

  • courses and a tutorial from the core courses ;
  • the supporting seminars for the thesis ;
  • optional courses for 15 credits (2nd semester).

The programme of the 2nd year of the Master is made up of:

  • a lesson of Law, change and society.
  • a tutorial in the selected focus.
  • a selected focus, from the eight focuses available (on selection) either at UCLouvain, at KUL or abroad (1st semester) ;
  • the thesis (spread out across the year) ;
  • 10 ects of optional course, from the optional courses available or optional courses taken abroad at a partner university (Erasmus) (2nd semester).


For a programme-type, and regardless of the focus, options/or elective courses selected, this master will carry a minimum of 120 credits divided over two annual units, corresponding to 60 credits each.
