Technology platform

cental | Louvain-la-Neuve

The CENTAL technology platform applies its expertise in natural language processing (NLP) and artificial intelligence applied to textual data. From corpus analysis to large language models (LLMs) and generative AI, it supports researchers, institutions and companies in designing, evaluating and adopting language technologies. This includes selecting, adapting, and assessing models for specific tasks and domains. Its services are available to both the UCLouvain community and external partners as part of its commitment to serving society.

What we can help with

  • Information extraction and classification
  • LLMs and generative AI
  • Automatic text generation and summarisation
  • AI-assisted language learning and readability assessment
  • Design of NLP software and prototypes
  • Methodological advice and training

For university research: the platform collaborates in the projects of several UCLouvain research centres, helping them select and use NLP tools, design dedicated software, and apply sound methods to their textual data.

For companies and institutions : through one-off services, consultancy (scientific guidance) and research and development projects.

A responsible approach to AI

As a university lab, we evaluate language models rigorously and are transparent about their limits. We pay particular attention to data protection, reproducibility and, where relevant, the use of open-source models.

Funding

In addition to regional aid for research and development, CENTAL is approved by Innoviris for Innovation vouchers. Do not hesitate to contact us for more information.

An Innovation voucher is financial support of up to €10,000 for Brussels-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that want to use short-term technical services (up to 15 months) at a research centre. It can cover the services listed above, for example to validate an idea before launching a project, or for one-off expert work such as named entity extraction to produce meeting minutes, or text mining to analyse customer behaviour.

Who can apply?

  • Your SME is carrying out an innovative project likely to have, at the very least, a positive impact on sustainable development, employment or the economy of the Brussels Region.

  • You can show that you are able to fund your share of the costs of the study.

  • Your SME is in good legal standing with regard to any obligations attached to previous aid granted by the Brussels-Capital Region.
