Manon AUTUORI (MNUT) was awarded the prize for the best oral communication at the Belgian Nutrition Society symposium in Brussels on Friday 3 May.

She received an award for the best oral presentation at the Belgian Nutrition Society (BNS) 2024 symposium, whose theme this year was ‘Sustainable and nourishing diets: how to meet both targets?’ and which took place on the Erasme campus, Brussels. Her thesis is supervised by the Professor Nathalie Delzenne, and its aim is to develop a method for analyzing exhaled air in order to study the triangular relationship between the host, the nutrition and the gut microbiota. The presentation she was awarded for was entitled ‘Identification of novel compounds released in exhaled air as representative of gut microbiota activity in humans’. This analysis identifies novel gut microbiota related volatile metabolites in the breath resulting from fiber fermentation, but also interestingly from lipid and protein metabolism.
