CFD modelling of gas-electrolyte behaviour in alkaline water electrolysis cells by Kevin Van Droogenbroek

Place Louis Pasteur, 2 - Salle BST 21

In the coming years, considerable efforts will have to be made to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible in order to limit the increase in global average temperature. One way to decarbonize a wide range of sectors – including transport, iron and steel production and chemicals manufacture – is to use green hydrogen as an energy carrier to store and deliver usable and clean energy. At present, the most mature technology for producing green hydrogen is Alkaline Water Electrolysis (AWE).

The role of renewable fuels in a fossil-free European whole-energy system by Paolo Thiran

Place du Levant 2, Seminar room b.044

With the Green Deal, the European Union has committed to transitioning to a fossil-free energy system, and recent energy crises have highlighted the importance of energy sovereignty in Europe. Renewable fuels, derived from renewable biomass or electricity, have been identified as a critical vector for achieving this goal due to their versatility for many applications such as seasonal storage, energy transport, and potential use in hard-to-abate sectors. They are often referred to as the "Swiss Army Knives" of the energy transition.
