Rheometers are high‑precision measurement instruments. By applying a force to a sample, they measure the material’s resistance in order to determine its viscosity and texture.
They can analyze complex fluids (such as emulsions, paints, inks, or cosmetics) and quantify specific phenomena such as shear‑thinning or yield stress.
In addition, so‑called “oscillatory” rheology makes it possible to study the viscoelasticity of products, from nearly ideal liquids to the most rigid solids.

Thanks to funding from the F.R.S.-FNRS, the P2C platform has acquired an ARES‑G2 rheometer.

Unlike other systems on the market, the ARES‑G2 can independently measure the imposed deformation a
This major technical innovation eliminates measurement errors related to instrument inertia and ensures total reliability.

Combined with ultra‑fast and homogeneous temperature control, the ARES‑G2 accurately reproduces real manufacturing or usage conditions.

The ARES‑G2 can also operate as a Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA), enabling the testing of solid materials (bending, tension, compression).

It can integrate advanced analytical methods such as:

  • LAOS — Large Amplitude Oscillatory Shear,
  • FT Rheology — Fourier Transform analysis,
  • OSP — Orthogonal Superposition,
  • 2D‑SAOS — Two‑Dimensional Small Amplitude Oscillatory Shear.

These techniques allow the study of nonlinear behavior, anisotropy, or microstructural evolution under shear.

In summary, the ARES‑G2 is particularly valuable for:

  • High‑precision measurements
  • Characterizing complex viscoelastic materials
  • Temperature‑controlled testing
  • Advanced rheological analyses (LAOS, FT‑Rheology, OSP, DMA)
  • Linking microstructure to processing or end‑use properties
