Great recognition for research at IMMC – UCLouvain!
At the SIAM International Meshing Roundtable 2026, held in Berlin, Germany, Tim Gabriel (PhD Student at ULiège and IMMC, UCLouvain) received the Best Research Note Award for the paper:“Intrinsic Surface Meshing Using Geodesic Distances”.
The work (co-authored with Jean-François Remacle and Christophe Geuzaine), was carried out within the Discrete IGA research project and addresses the construction and application of numerical models derived from raw geometric data.
The paper introduces a novel surface meshing method that leverages distances computed directly on the input geometry, facilitating the creation of numerical models while minimizing the need for extensive preprocessing or manual intervention.
