Great recognition for research at iMMC – UCLouvain!
At the SIAM IMR26, held in Berlin, Germany, Nathan Tihon (Ph.D student at IMMC, UCLouvain) received the Best Student Paper for his work:
“Robust and Efficient 3D alpha-shapes on GPU”
The work (co-authored with Jonathan Lambrechts and Jean-François Remacle) addresses the parallel computation of alpha-shapes (a subset of the Delaunay Triangulation) without synchronization.
The paper proposes a parallel way to compute the triangles adjacent to each vertex and extends the alpha-shape to space-varying alpha. These contributions directly address the bottleneck of meshing times in the Particle Finite Element Method.
