Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

Situate a text in the system of literary genres in the Hispanic world ; 
 
2 Be familiar with the main characteristics and stages of the development of each genre ; 
 
3 Critically apply the main critical tools (narratology, stylistics, etc.) to a short literary text. 
 
This learning unit contributes to the development and command of the following skills and learning outcomes of the ELAL programmes:1.4, 1.5 
 
Content
  1. Introduction to the system of literary genres: What is literary? Is a typology possible? 
  2. The lyric genre. The poetic and the ludic. Stylistics.  
  3. The didactic or rhetorical genre. The aphorism.
  4. The narrative genre. From the prose poem to the micro-story. 
  5. The dramatic genre. History of Spanish short theatre. Main categories of the analysis of the theatrical text.  
Teaching methods
Lectures will be given in a flipped classroom environment (preparatory reading for each class session and individual and group exercises).  The aim of the course is to develop the ability to analyse texts. These skills will be worked on in class and in exercises. Pre-reading of the texts covered in the course is of vital importance for working on Spanish language skills and literary analysis skills. 
Evaluation methods
Continuous assessment and written exam 
During the semester, students will read the preparatory texts and complete an intermediate test and a written assignment (the test and assignment will be worth 4 points of the final mark). 
At the end of the semester, there will be a written exam on knowledge of the concepts worked on in class, the texts studied, the analytical tools presented in class and their application to other texts. This exam will be worth 16 points.
For the August session, the assessment will include the preparation of a new assignment (which will be marked out of 2) and a written examination on knowledge of the concepts worked on in class, the texts studied, the analytical tools presented in class and their application to other texts. This exam will be worth 18 points.
