Clément Fontan is professor of European Economic Policy at UcLouvain and University of Saint-Louis Brussels. He is co-director of the journal Politique Européenne. His fields of specialization are: political economy, European studies, financial ethics, central banking and financial crises. He is the supervisor of the Phd thesis of Antoine de Cabanes He is scientific coordinator of the permanent research group « Regulation, markets, capitalisms » of the French Political Sciences Association.
His PhD thesis was defended in 2012 at Sciences-Po Grenoble under the supervision of Sabine Saurugger. He analyzed how the European Central bank extended its competences and influence during the Eurozone crisis. After teaching at Sciences-Po Lille (2012-2014), he led his post-doctoral research at the Center of Ethics (University of Montreal), the PACTE/CNRS laboratory for the H2020 EMUchoices project and the Financial Ethics Research Group (University of Göteborg).
He published in many scientific journals in French and English (cf. research section) and he is co-author of " "Do Central Banks serve the People" (Polity, 2018), translated in French (Raisons d'Agir 2019) and Korean. He often presents his research results in front of policymakers (Belgium Finance Minister, French National Bank, European Central Bank) and in media outlets such as La vie des idées, Mediapart, ou France Culture.
