Research is a driving force at UCLouvain.
UCLouvain research centres assemble member researchers of one or several institutes to work on a research project or area.
Louvain4: UCLouvain interdisciplinary research initiative
An internationally renowned university, UCLouvain is home to two science parks, in Louvain-la-Neuve and Seneffe, which create synergies between businesses and the university.
Parallel to its teaching and research missions, the university pursues a third mission inseparable from its other activities: serving society. Turning university research findings into services or products accessible to civil society and companies—this is technology transfer.
UCLouvain maintains 45 technology platforms with a variety of expertise and resources. Their role is to provide the research institutes with technical and administrative staff and research equipment (e.g. analysis or mechanical testing laboratory, archives, IT services). The platforms support the institutes in a cross-disciplinary manner but can also support university teaching activities and community action. Structurally, they can be : integrated into an institute, co-managed by several institutes, or remain independent.
