Corentin Vande Kerckhove
Professeur
Corentin Vande Kerckhove holds a Master of Engineering, a Master of Management and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from UCLouvain. After a career at a Y-Combinator backed fintech company, Delphia Inc. (Toronto), he becomes an Assistant professor in the field of Business Data Analytics at UCLouvain. His research interests lie at the intersection of opinion dynamics and data-driven decision making, aiming at leveraging the value of data to improve organizational effectiveness and reducing unconscious bias. In particular, he tends to have an affinity in the field of data mining on social media data, exploring innovative network analysis methods and natural language processing models.

A focus on interdisciplinary research. My research journey is a testament to my commitment to interdisciplinary exploration. Collaborating with experts in psychology, political science, education, and health science, I have consistently sought to transcend the boundaries of conventional research silos. My diverse academic background, spanning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, a master's degree in electrical engineering, a master's in management, and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics, has endowed me with a multifaceted lens through which I approach complex problems. Leading research initiatives in finance, marketing, and corporate social responsibility (CSR), I endeavor to uncover synergies between seemingly disparate fields. My participation in the inaugural edition of Circle U interdisciplinary sandpits in September 2022 further underscores my dedication to cross-disciplinary engagement, fostering innovative solutions through collaborative synergy. My enthusiasm for venturing into uncharted territories and engaging with researchers employing distinct methodological approaches continues to be a driving force in my interdisciplinary odyssey.
Telling stories from data. Throughout the years, I have dedicated myself to a relentless pursuit of expertise in the intricate field of mathematical modeling of human behavior. This journey has led me to a specialization in data mining, with a particular emphasis on navigating unstructured datasets, notably within the realm of social media data. This includes the challenging domain of short text messages and the intricate web of network analysis. Over the years, I have amassed invaluable experience in dealing with human data, characterized by its notorious noisiness, inherent validation challenges, and the perpetual struggle for representativeness.
Within my research endeavors, I have carved out two primary focal points. The first centers on the application of personal data to benefit our wider community. This encompasses a range of critical tasks, such as the detection of fake news, the generation of insightful information for the community's benefit, and the development of robust recommender systems that enhance user experiences. The second facet of my research, more recently, has revolved around the leadership of multiple projects in responsible AI. This sphere encompasses the crucial considerations of fairness, the identification and mitigation of data biases, and the advancement of explainability and transparency in artificial intelligence systems.
