Why it's important to vote
The election of the UCLouvain rector is based on the principle of weighted universal suffrage. Blank votes are considered only when calculating the participation rate, not when calculating the number of votes cast. The candidate who obtains an absolute majority of votes is elected.
It's important for you to vote because in order for this weighting to apply (61% for academics, 13% for administrative staff, 13% for scientific staff, 13% for students), each category's minimum participation rate must be reached, as set out in the Election Regulations : 90% for the academic category and 15% for the other three.
