iDose - Intelligent Dose Optimization using Surrogates and other Endpoints

We are seeking a talented post-doctoral researcher to join us in a large collaborative
research project entitled ”iDose: Intelligent Dose Optimization using Surrogates and other Endpoints” undergone in collaboration with academic institutions (UClouvain, Institut Jules Bordet/ULB ) and private companies (IDDI, One2Treat, Altis Labs, Janssen R&D). This BIOWIN project is financed by the Belgian Walloon Region.

The emergence of innovative cancer therapies such as immunotherapies and targeted treatments has transformed dose selection in oncology drug development. Traditional approaches based on the maximum tolerated dose are no longer always appropriate, creating an urgent need for new dose-optimization strategies that balance efficacy and safety while maximizing long-term patient benefit.

This project aims to develop novel statistical methods for dose optimization in early-phase oncology trials by integrating multiple sources of information, including toxicity, efficacy, survival outcomes, and radiomic data. The ultimate goal is to support the identification of treatment doses that improve long-term patient outcomes and meet the evolving expectations of regulatory agencies. Within this project, post-doctoral researcher will focus on joint modelling of survival and longitudinal data, which are key to investigating the role of outcomes that are potential surrogates for long-term clinical outcomes such as overall survival.

The post-doctoral researcher will be based at the Institute of Statistics, Biostatistics and Actuarial Sciences (ISBA, part of LIDAM, the Louvain Institute of Data Analysis and Modeling in economics and statistics) at UCLouvain, in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.

He/she will be supervised by Prof. Catherine Legrand (ISBA/LIDAM, UCLouvain). While the postdoctoral research will be primarily conducted at UCLouvain’s Louvain-la-Neuve campus, opportunities to work from the offices of the project partners will also be available. In addition, partial remote working will be permitted. Regular meetings will be organized with the various project partners.

Expected profile: You hold a PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field and have acquired a strong background in medical data modelling, survival analysis, and clinical trial methodology.You have programming skills in R and/or Python and you are fluent in English. You are able to work autonomously and take initiative, while also contributing effectively to a collaborative research environment and engaging closely with other members of the project team.
