Eleni Kavvatha holds a Bachelor's in International and European Studies followed by a Master's degree in Environmental Governance and Sustainable Development, from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens, Greece and a Master's Degree in Governance and Entrepreneurship in Northern and Indigenous Areas from UiT in Tromso, Norway. She has also studied Energy Environment and Sustainable Development at the University of Oslo and International Perspectives on Business and Governance in the High North at Nord Universitet – Business School in Bodo, Norway. She has training onClimate Change Entrepreneurship and Climate Change related Challenges from the Climate-Kic organization.
At UCLouvain - USL-B, she works as a Researcher in Arctic and EU Relations for CReSPo (Centre of Research in Political Science and the Institute of European Studies), under the supervision of Amandine Orsini. Her research is focused on the impact of EU environmental policies on the Sami Indigenous People in the European Arctic region.
Prior to joining the IES and CReSPo USL-B she has worked as a Research Officer at the Module EU Environmental Policies & Law (POLLEN) at UCLouvain - saint Louis Bruxelles as well as in Greece and Norway and is the co-creator of a business plan for sustainable solutions to address Climate Change, by designing a rainwater drainage system for refugee camps, in collaboration with Climate-KIC. She has worked in Belgium, Iceland, Svalbard, Greenland and Lapland.
Her research is focused on Democratic Dynamics in the EU External Relations in the High North, non – state actors in the Arctic, Indigenous Peoples Organizations, Arctic communities, Arctic Governance, EU Environmental policies, Policy complexity and Fragmentation and the Arctic Council.
She has co-edited a book for Routledge Publishing House under the title: "EU Environmental Governance - Current and Future Challenges" and has several publications related to the Arctic.
