Hadrien Rattez
Professeur
Hadrien Rattez joined the Civil and Environmental Engineering Section of the Institute of Mechanics, Materials and Civil Engineering of UCLouvain in September 2020. His research focuses on the mechanical behavior of geomaterials, developing constitutive laws, experimental methods and advanced numerical models (mainly through the development of the multi-physics finite element library called Redback, part of the open-source Moose project). These tools aim at understanding and modeling of geotechnical structures, Energy related projects (like geothermal, wind turbines, or CO2 storage), and natural hazards (like landslides or earthquakes). He teaches courses on strength of geomaterials, finite element modeling and advanced geotechnical design in the Bachelor and Master programs of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Prior to his current position, he was a Postdoctoral associate at Duke University (2018-2020) working on the influence of multi-physical couplings and the development of high order continuum theories to describe the behavior of geomaterials. Hadrien Rattez holds a master’s degree of teaching in Civil Engineering (2012) from the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan (France) and Msc in Soil and Rock Mechanics (2014) from Ecole des Ponts ParisTech (France). During his studies, he had the opportunity to work in different universities and companies (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, University of Tokyo, University of New South Wales, Vinci engineering company). He obtained his PhD degree in Mechanics from Ecole des Ponts ParisTech in 2017, for which he received 3 PhD awards from French and European organizations.
