UCLouvain, Belgium — Teaching Assistant and PhD candidate PhD student under the supervision of Sandra Soares-Frazão Thesis Project: Numerical and experimental modeling of breaching of earthen embankments The research is aimed at developing and validating a numerical tool which is capable to model continuous failure of earthen dikes (Breaching) under overflowing thanks to contribution to full-scale tests (Polder2cs.eu) on the real dike and conduction medium-scale laboratory tests. Well-documented data from the experiments will be utilized for the future models’ calibration and validation. |

Master Thesis
I'm passionate of earthen embankments, dikes and levees performance once undergo overflowing or overtopped by waves. In frame of my PhD thesis I try to to model both experimentally and numerically the dike breaching due to a series of hydraulic loads, i.e. River overflowing and wave overtopping.
To achieve these goals, I already participated in a series of full-scale experimental campaign and field measurements in frame of Polder2C's project (https://polder2cs.eu/). Currently, we are doing medium-scale laboratory tests of dike overtopping in collaboration with the Hydraulics laboratory of SPW to better understand the governing phenomena. Moreover, these medium-scale tests which are more close to the reality in terms of reproducing the process, provide us enough data for calibration and improvement current numerical models.
The aim is that these medium-scale tests can better address the scale effects and issues regarding the small-scale laboratory modeling.
