On 28 April 2025, ISPOLE will have the pleasure of hosting Dr. Thomas Laloux & Dr. Aurélien Goutsmedt (UCLouvain) for a Capacity Building Seminar "How to Make Great Visualisations"
Abstract: : This session provides a general introduction to common challenges in data visualization for social sciences. It will outline key principles to help you design clearer, more effective visualizations. Through numerous examples of problematic visualizations and step-by-step improvements, participants will develop a better understanding of best practices. The session will be based on R and ggplot2, but no prior expertise in R programming is required. Those familiar with R will be able to reproduce and adapt the provided code.
Speakers Bio:
Aurélien Goutsmedt is a postdoctoral researcher at UCLouvain and a lecturer at ICHEC. He works on the history of economic ideas on inflation and unemployment and studies the influence of economists on policy decisions.
Thomas Laloux is an FNRS postdoctoral researcher at UCLouvain (Belgium). His research focuses on the EU legislative decision-making process and institutions, as well as on citizens' legitimacy beliefs and attitudes towards globalisation. His work has been published in several leading journals, including the Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of Common Market Studies, West European Politics, Politics and Governance, and European Union Politics.
